Provenance research is rarely solved through a single database.

Reconstructing the ownership and movement of an artwork often means piecing together fragmented evidence from auction catalogues, catalogues raisonnés, exhibition catalogues, archival documents, newspapers, artist monographs, dealer records, museum collections, and art-market databases.

The most reliable provenance is therefore built through cross-referencing independent sources.
